B. Nagarani working as Assistant professor in Sri krupa Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the department of Pharmaceutics, Velikatta. She has awarded the Bachelor’s degree from Sri krupa Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Osmania University), Master’s degree from Sri krupa Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Osmania University), Velikatta. She has more than 8 years’ experience in teaching and research. She is doing PhD in GITAM University; Vizag. She has published 20 articles in national and international journals. She presented poster and oral presentations in national and international conferences. She received gold medal for her Excellency in M Pharmacy. She has two patents in anti-diabetic area. She published four text books named Physical pharmacy-I and Industrial pharmacy-II. She published two book chapters. She is the lifetime member of APTI and registered with Telangana state Pharmacy council. She received international researcher award from International research Association, UK. She received young scientist award from INSO in 2022 at Chennai.

Abstract:

Analysis of extraction method using various solvents for efficient yield of biologically active compounds from natural source is very essential because there is large importance for the natural compounds in food, pharmacy and other allied industries. Mangiferin which is a xanthone compound present in high quantity in mango leaves and is endow to have anti diabetic activity along with other pharmacological activities. In present study an attempt was made to develop sustained release matrix tablets of Mangiferin using HPMC (K15M & K100M) and eudragit (RS 100 & RL 100) and Protanal as release retardant polymers. The Mangiferin matrix tablets were prepared by wet granulation method using lactose as a diluent. Formulations of different polymer percentages were formulated. The formulations were optimized on the basis of acceptable weight variation, thickness, hardness, % friability, % drug content and in vitro drug release. The in vitro release studies were performed using USP type II apparatus using 6.8 pH phosphate buffer as a dissolution medium, showed that optimized formulation F8 consisting of eudragit RL with 20% of the polymer was found to sustain the release of Mangiferin over a period of 12 h. The formulation exhibited highest correlation (R) value in case of Hixson-Crowell model and the release kinetic study proved that the formulation showed erosion process and shown to follow zero order kinetics. It was concluded that eudragit RL can be used for the preparation of sustained release tablet of ibuprofen.

Title: Fabrication of fast dissolvable micro needle patch for transdermal delivery of simvastatin

Zulcaif with a MPhil (1st Class) in Pharmacy from Riphah International University in 2019. Following a year of Pre-Registration training spent in Hospital Pharmacy, he joined School of Pharmacy at The University of Lahore to undertake a PhD in Pharmaceutics. He submitted PhD thesis in 2022 and appointed to a Lectureship in Pharmaceutics in September 2022 at The University of Lahore. Zulcaif research is centered on design and physicochemical characterization of advanced polymeric drug delivery systems for transdermal and topical drug delivery, with a strong emphasis on improving therapeutic outcomes for patients. His bio-adhesive patch design was used in successful photodynamic therapy of over 100 patients with neoplastic and dysplastic gynecological conditions and the patent subsequently out-licensed.  Currently, Zulcaif research is focused on novel polymeric microneedle arrays for transdermal administration of "difficult-to-deliver" drugs.

Abstract:

Fast dissolving microneedles are one of the emerging approaches designed to enhance drug delivery involving minimal invasion. Herein, we report fast dissolvable microneedle (F-dMN) patches as a novel tool for better systemic delivery of Simvastatin in a patient friendly manner. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) were used in the development of F-dMN patch. Developed formulations were characterized through SEM, FTIR, PXRD, dissolution testing, tensile strength, elongation (%), mechanical strength, skin irritation studies, and pharmacokinetic evaluation. Optimized F-dMN patch (G6) exhibited excellent elongation (35.17%), tensile strength (9.68MPa), moisture content (5.65%), penetration potential (~560µm) and Simvastatin release of 81.75%. Pharmacokinetic properties of fast dissolvable microneedle patches were also improved i.e., Cmax 6.974 µg/ml, tmax 1hr and AUC 19.518µg.h/ml as compared to tablet Simva solution thus confirming improved bioavailability. Kinetic modelling revealed hixson-crowell as best fit model for G6, based on regression coefficient. Histopathological findings proved good biocompatibility of the developed F-dMN patch. Moreover, stability studies (axial needle fracture force and drug content) of developed optimized microneedles patches confirmed the stability of the developed F-dMN patch.

Abstract:

Medicinal and aromatic plants are a considerable source of active substances which are exploited in the treatment of several diseases. This study was carried out in the Rif (North of Morocco), it aimed to identify medicinal and aromatic plant used by the local people to treat digestive system diseases, together with the associated ethno medicinal knowledge. The ethno medical information collected was from 732 traditional healers using semi-structured interviews, free listing and focus group. Family use value (FUV), use value (UV), plant part value (PPV), fidelity level (FL) and Informant Agreement Ratio (IAR) were employed in data analysis. Medicinal and aromatic plant were collected, identified and kept at the natural resources and biodiversity laboratory, Ibn Tofail University, Kenitra. During the present study 87 medicinal plant species belonging to 43 families has been documented. The most frequent ailments reported were gastric ulcers (IAR = 0.97). The majority of the remedies were prepared from decoction (42.12%). Leaves were the most frequently used plant part (PPV = 0.344) and Thymus saturejoides Coss. (UV = 0.240) was the specie most commonly prescribed by local herbalists.

Conclusions: The results of this study showed that people living in the Rif of Morocco are still dependent on medicinal and aromatic plants. The documented plants can serve as a basis for further studies on the regions medicinal plants knowledge and for future phytochemical and pharmacological studies.

Abstract:

Drug therapy problem is associated with morbidity, mortality, increased hospital stay and reduced quality of life. Moreover, pediatric patients are quite susceptible to drug therapy problems. Clinical pharmacist services had a positive impact on pediatric patient care. To assess the prevalence of drug therapy problem, the activities of clinical pharmacists and its acceptance rate at pediatric ward of Jimma university medical center. A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted in the pediatric ward of Jimma University Medical Center from April 01 to June 30, 2018. The collected data were classified according to Pharmaceutical care network Europe version 5.0. Data were entered into Epi data version 4.0.2 and then exported to statistical software package version 21.0 for analysis. To identify predictors of drug therapy problems occurrence, multiple stepwise backward logistic regression analysis were done. The 95% CI was used to show the accuracy of data analysis and statistical significance was considered at P <0.05. From a total of 304 patients included in the study, nearly three fourth of them had at least on drug therapy problem per patient. A total of 356 pharmaceutical interventions were performed in the study setting. Dosing problem 112(31.46%) and drug choice problem101 (28.37%) were the predominantly identified drug therapy problem. The most important interventions provided was adherence and counseling (22.75%) followed by change of medication (13.76%). The acceptance rate of clinical pharmacist intervention was

Abstract:

The current investigation aimed to design and synthesis titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2.NPs) utilizing leaf extract of Ocimum sanctum for the better management of diabetic wounds. The developed Nano particulate system of average size 130.3 nm with polydispersity index 0.237 and zeta potential -11.5 mV was uniformly dispersed into chitosan gel (2% w/v) for topical application in a diabetic wound. The energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis of the developed Nano particulate system exhibited strong signals of TiO2 with an intense absorption spectrum at 4-5 KeV. The streptozotocin (55 mg/kg) was used to induce diabetic wounds in Wistar rats to evaluate the wound healing efficacy of the developed formulation system compared to the marketed formulation (1% silver sulfadiazine cream). It was observed that the developed topical formulation containing TiO2.NPs have a significant (p<0.05) early epithelization time (10.25±0.5 days) compared to the control group (19.5±0.57 days) without treatment.  Furthermore, histopathological investigation of the developed formulation system after wound healing (21 days) reveals improved histological development (like keratinization, hair follicles, blood vessels, and formation of granulation tissue) of skin tissue compared to the control group without treatment.  The present study provided a proof-of-concept to further improve the healing efficacy of chitosan gel in combination with TiO2.NPs for diabetic wounds.
